Valentines Day Cake Balls

Cake Balls:

Start out with any cake mix of your choice and a can of frosting that goes with  your cake.
Bake your Cake to package directions .... now on this one I did my own changing up of the box recipe.  I used 2/3 cup of real butter instead of Oil.  Usually when you make cake balls you will have to chill the mixture before rolling into balls and when I used butter this time I didn't have to chill the mix.

Now that the cake is baked let it cool for about two hours.  Once cooled take the cake and break it into pieces in another bowl and then add 1/2 or a full can of frosting.  I did the whole can.  Mix the frosting up in the cake mix and you are now ready and set to roll these little ladies into cute little balls.  Roll them up into whatever size you want and lay them on a cookie sheet on top of wax paper.

I did go ahead and let my balls set in the freezer for about an hour after I rolled them just to be sure they would hold together for me dipping in chocolate.

Now for the Chocolate I used Hershey's morsels... some people like to use Almond Bark but I do not.  So I melted my morsels with 1/2 bar of Gulf Wax in the microwave.  I actually recommend if you are going to use the wax you melt it in a pan on the stove on low heat and add to the chocolate mix.  The wax as you can see gives such a shine once it has dried and I literally rolled the whole pan of balls in less than 10 minutes.  So the wax added in makes it smooth dipping and rolling.  :-)

Now for the added swirls of pink I took a package of white chocolate morsels and added about 1/4 of a bar of gulf wax because I didn't  use the whole bag since I was drizzling on top of the balls.  Now if you want to add color to the white you MUST USE GEL FOOD COLORING, if you go and add in liquid it will cause your chocolate to harden up and then you CANNOT get it to melt again.

Get you some cute little cupcake holders and viola!  Enjoy.  Any questions please just ask and I'll be happy to help!
